Crucial Update: Washington SOC Codes Penalty Assessment
Washington State has ended its grace period for Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) code reporting and is now assessing a penalty of up to $250.00 for each employee reported with an invalid SOC code. If you have employees working in Washington, please review the SOC code assigned to each employee and verify it is correct.
Important: Washington State requires employers to use the O*NET OnLine occupation search tool to determine the appropriate SOC code. Do not use the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) SOC Lookup Tool, as Washington does not accept those codes for reporting purposes.
Find the O*NET OnLine occupation search tool here: https://www.onetonline.org/
If any SOC codes need to be updated, please send us the revised codes as soon as possible so we can update your records before your next Washington filing. Contact our customer support team with any questions or if you need assistance locating the correct SOC code.
