Under Senate Bill S3006C, child labor protections are now in effect in New York, with adjustments to working paper and certification requirements set to go into effect May 9, 2027. New restrictions apply to the type of work minors can perform, how many hours they can work per week, and schedule requirements. Employers must adhere to these regulations to avoid stiff penalties and fines, starting at $10,000 for the first violation. Penalties triple for employers in violation of the law that results in the death or injury of a minor employee.
Additional guidance regarding the Retail Worker Safety Act has also been released under Senate Bill S740. A newly launched website provides training, policies, and frequently asked questions to ensure compliance with regulations.
