Under Assembly Bill 422, employers in Nevada are required to provide unpaid leave to volunteer members of the Nevada Wing of the Civil Air Patrol for emergency or training missions. This requirement goes into effect on October 1, 2025. The amount of leave per federal fiscal year is:
- Up to 10 workdays (training for emergency missions, including disaster response and search and rescue)
- Up to 30 workdays (responding to an emergency mission)
An employee must notify their employer of the plan to join the Civil Air Patrol and provide certification and verification of the need for volunteer service. Employers may not retaliate against employees using their right to Civil Air Patrol leave or require employees to exhaust any other accrued or earned leave before taking the required unpaid leave.
