Under Assembly Bill 215, additional restrictions will be placed on minors’ working hours as of October 1, 2025.
The current restriction for those under 16 years of age is 8 hours per day or 48 hours per workweek. However, the change prohibits those between age 16 and 19 from working between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. when those hours precede a school night and the child is enrolled at a private or public high school. Additionally, the worker may not work more than 40 hours per week. Covered workers may work as lifeguards, arcade employees, or stage or theatrical performers under new expansion of the list of permissible jobs.
School districts and juvenile courts may grant exemptions.
Performers in motion pictures and farmworkers are exempt from child labor laws.
