House Bill 1875 amends the Washington paid sick leave law, allowing employees and transportation network company drivers to use their accrued paid sick leave to participate in or prepare for an administrative or judicial immigration proceeding.
The bill will go into effect on July 27, 2025. Employers may not retaliate or discriminate against covered employees who exercise their right under this law. However, an employer may require the following to verify an immigration proceeding:
- Documentation from an immigrant or refugee advocate, attorney, clergy member, or other professional
- A written statement from the eligible employee
