As of July 1, 2026, employers in Alaska may use payroll cards to pay employees. The change falls under SB 79.
Employees must authorize this payment method, and employers must provide the following notifications:
- Wage payment options
- Terms and conditions of the payroll card (including a list of any applicable fees)
- A cost-free option for accessing wages and checking the account
- Any details about additional fees that apply to the payroll card
Employers are not permitted to offer payroll cards that charge fees for application/initiation/participation in the account, issuing, transferring, or point-of-sale purchase transactions.
