As of July 1, 2026, employers with 100+ employees working in Hawaii must allow workers to take family leave for a “qualifying military exigency.” This term includes any exigency related to active-duty service by the child, spouse, sibling, grandchild, parent, or reciprocal beneficiary in the U.S. Armed Forces.
Applicable employers must update state family leave policies to include this as a permitted reason for taking leave.
