Illinois legislators recently reviewed two laws that relate to paid leave and pay scale disclosure. The first, HB 3129, Public Act 103-0539, makes it unlawful for employers with 15 or more employees to fail to include the pay scale for a position in any job posting. Employers will also become liable for a third party’s failure to include the pay scale and benefits in a job posting, putting more responsibility on organizations that outsource hiring processes. Governor J.B. Pritzker signed the act on August 11, 2023, and it is slated to go into effect on January 1, 2025.
The second, HB 4128, requires all employers in the state of Illinois to provide employees who are veterans with a paid day off on Veterans Day. Additionally, an income tax credit for the full amount of wages paid by taxpayers to any veteran employees. If passed, this law would go into effect on January 1, 2025, although it is pending committee assignment in the House. Additional updates will be forthcoming.
