Reminder
Potential penalty per employee reported with an invalid SOC code in Washington State.
Washington SOC code penalties are now active
If your business has employees working in Washington State, this update matters to you.
Washington State has ended its grace period for Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) code reporting. Effective now, the state is assessing a penalty of up to $250.00 per employee reported with an invalid SOC code.
What you need to do
Please review the SOC code on file for each Washington-based employee and confirm it is correct.
One important detail: Washington requires employers to use the O*NET OnLine occupation search tool to find the right code. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) SOC Lookup Tool is not accepted for Washington reporting, so please do not use that one.
